Constructed of silver, the obverse consisting of a Maltese Cross with pebbled arms, overlaid by a crossed hammer and mallet, situated above a Free State of Prussia style German national eagle clutching a sword and cluster of lightning bolts, circumscribed by an inscription of FR VERDIENSTE UM DAS GRUBEN RETTUNGS WESEN (FOR MERIT IN MINE RESCUE), the reverse bearing a makers mark of PREUSS.
