I had tried for years to grow the commonly sold European form of this species with no luck and had given up until I found this growing near the village of Nari on the Korean island of Ulleung (aka Uulong)

The cross was first made a year earlier on the west coast by California agave breeder

a superbly unusual clone that we discovered near Chattahoochee in Gadsden County

This gem hails from woodlands on the southernmost of the larger main Japanese islands, Kyushu. The attractive silver veined green leaves form a tight, evergreen 4" tall x 1' wide clump, adorned just below the foliage in early May (NC) with dazzling light beige flowers, each with a purple eye ring.
