The pads will hang over the edge of the lip of the driver by a 1 2 inch. This is by design to create a cushion when buffing, scrubbing or stripping next to a baseboard or other immovable object. The pad driver slips up underneath the apron for vibration free use. You can use a 20" red pad with this pad
