Alcatraz Poster Color:Standard Behind the design is aAlcatraz Federal Penitentiary operated from 1934 to 1963 on a small, isolated island in San Francisco Bay. Originally constructed as a military fort, the island later served as a military prison until 1933, when it was converted into a federal penitentiary.
